Memory Tricks You Can Use in Daily Life

Children who are forgetful are often told to tie a small ribbon or a piece of thread around their fingers whenever they really have to remember something. When they forget, which they are likely to do, and they look down and see the thread, they will instantly remember what it was they were supposed to do. This piece of thread is an example of the many natural memory enhancers there are out there.

Exercise Your Brain

Indeed, the best memory enhancers are the ones that exercise your brain and your memory naturally, much like the piece of thread around a child’s finger. Of course being an adult, you’d look a bit silly with pieces of thread around your finger, so you’ll have to find other tricks and techniques to enhance your memory naturally.

Treat Like a Game

One of the most effective things you can do is to play a game with yourself. Games are fun, and most of the time memorable. So let’s say you need there is a list of errands you need to get done, and you’re afraid you’ll forget something along the way. Imagine that you’re on a scavenger hunt that spells out a word with the same number of letters as your number of errands. Assign one errand to each letter, and as you go about your day, add letters to your words. You’ll find that you’ll be able to get all of it done!

Visualize

Another great way to remember things you have to do is to attach a visual scenario or thought to the task. For example, you have to clean out your garage on Saturday, imagine that every time your garage door opens, it magically sucks in more dirt and junk that turns into a monster on Saturday. Silly, yes, but visual enough so you remember to do it! Finally, simply tell yourself you’ll remember three times. For example, you have to buy milk, tell yourself “I have to buy milk. I have to buy milk. I have to buy milk.” Then tell yourself you will remember that fact. Throughout your day, you will be surprised how often you remember that you have to buy milk!

It’ll Become Natural

After some time of practicing these memory enhancers or memory techniques, you will find that you won’t need the reminders anymore. Your memory will simply be used to remembering certain types of information, and it will come naturally to you. You can then try other techniques to further strengthen your memory.
